experimental hip hop is one of the most exciting genres because there are no rules. artists push against what the genre is supposed to sound like, and sometimes that means loud and chaotic. other times it’s abstract, jazzy, electronic, and psychedelic.

i wanted every record here to highlight a different corner of experimental hip hop and show how wide that spectrum really is. some of these albums i grew up listening to. and some i discovered much later, but every one of them changed the way i hear hip hop.
