2018 albums ranked 𓇳

revisiting 2018 reminded me how many incredible records aged so well from this year.

i love an album that builds an entire world around it, whether that’s through production, storytelling, atmosphere, or aesthetics. the records i connected with the most this year were the ones that felt the most immersive rather than having the biggest cultural impact.

some highlights from my top albums:

KIDS SEE GHOSTS — KIDS SEE GHOSTS

one of my favorite collab albums ever made. Kanye and Cudi brought out the best in each other here, creating something uplifting, vulnerable, a little psychedelic, and surprisingly hopeful. my only wish is that it was longer. favorite tracks are Reborn and Cudi Montage.

Kali Uchis — Isolation

a record that sounds even better today than it did in 2018. Kali always blends genres so well, but here she does it best. it has rnb, soul, pop, reggaeton, and funk that all come together while touching on some of her influences and still sounding completely her own. my favorites here are Feel Like A Fool, After The Storm, and Dead To Me.

George Clanton — Slide

one of the most euphoric albums i’ve ever heard. it’s a combination of nostalgic sounds and really strong hooks. George creates a feeling i’ve never really found anywhere else. Livin’ Loose and Make It Forever are still two of my favorite songs of the decade.

The Voidz — Virtue

every time i revisit this album i discover a new favorite song. i think this is some of the strongest work Julian Casablancas has ever made. there’s so much variety here, but is still cohesive from beginning to end. my favorites from this album are ALieNNatioN, All Wordz Are Made Up, and Pink Ocean.
